Advanced Silent Running(ASR)

(D8.150) Advanced Silent running tech (ASR), This tech allows ships (not bases or other non-ship units) to use silent running (D7.10) for offensive purposes, not just defensive ones. To develop ASR an empire must have already developed Stealth Tech I & II (D8.110 & D8.120). Any ships using ASR must also have stealth tech installed (exception- ASR-III). Note that squadrons using silent running, including ASR can't leave their hex. This tech is only available after a successful R&D program (D1.0) and may not be used until Y187, but additional research may advance the YIS date.

(D8.151) ASR-I. Instead of losing all movement for the turn, ASR-I allows you to use silent running for only part of the turn. When a unit is on silent running some of your speed points are lost. 1 point of your speed point is lost every 3rd segment while under silent running (i.e., one speed lost for using SR for 1, 2, or 3 segments; a second one is lost on the 4th segment of use). The first loss happens the segment you declare you are on silent running, and another 1 after every 3rd segment. You may be on silent running without any remaining speed points (i.e. normal ships will run out of speed on their 7th segment of silent running but could still use silent running for the entire turn).

Example: An empire with HPM (C3.0) tech has a squadron consisting of HPM capable ships. It could use silent running for 7-9 segments and still use one RX (C1.0). If all ships in that SQ had outstanding crews, then the bonus speed (D10.70c) could be used for an RX (which would stack with any available RX due to only using silent running for part of a turn)..

(D8.152) ASR-II. Once this level of the tech is developed, a squadron using ASR to hide may interdict (this overrides (D7.16) which forbids this).

(D8.153) ASR-III. With this tech while you must have ST researched you don't need it installed for ASR to function. This allows ships such as X1 (D70.0) and X2 (D80.0) era designs to use ASR (they still can't use Stealth Tech (D8.100) if forbidden by (D8.110e)).
